1. Introduction

CrazySpace is a game I developed as an educational exercise for myself. It is a classic space shooter where the player pilots a ship that must destroy all the bad guys. It is also customizable and allows you to add new levels and graphics to the game. This is the first release of CrazySpace. Although it is basically in an alpha stage, it is fully playable. Depending on the response I receive from players as well as the length of time this game interests me as a development project, I will continue its development.

2. Requirements

CrazySpace requires a minimum of the Microsoft .Net Framework v3.5 (which can be found here ). Also please make sure the hotfix for .Net 3.5 SP1 is installed as well (here ). Obviously an operating system supporting that framework (Microsoft Windows 98, ME, XP, Vista, etc.) is required. Since I do not have an installer packaging for this game yet, you will have to install the framework separately (If you have Vista, you aleady have .Net 3.5 so ensure that you have the latest windows updates).

3. Controls

While in the game, you can use the following controls:
Up Arrow - moves your ship forward
Left Arrow - turns left
Right Arrow - turns right
Spacebar - fires gun (holding down the spacebar isn't recommended... you'll see why)
ESC - brings up the "Return To Menu" dialog screen.

4. Credits

This game utilizes the Physics2D.Net physics engine developed by Jono Porter (http://physics2d.googlepages.com/)

Here's the script to add to the html page to bring up the .net info:

I added the script directly before, but must have been parsed by the editor here so its in a jpeg now.

First, you can try opening your Control Panel and going to "Programs and Features". See if you have listed "Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1". I'm not sure if it will show up since I believe .Net 3.5 comes with Vista. If it is not visible, click on "View installed updates" and see if it is listed there. See if the hotfix mentioned in the readme is listed. Since I do not have a box with Vista on it that I can mess with, I'm not exactly sure what you'll find. I do have a VM machine running a dev build of Windows7 and it does not list the items mentioned.

The last thing you can try is creating an html file on your computer and adding this script to it:

Save the file and open it in Internet Explorer (don't use another browser because it might not list the added CLR components that IE lists).

A popup/alert window will come up listing your .Net runtimes.

You should see somewhere in the list: ".NET CLR 3.5.30729" which, is the version I am using, I built against, and works fine for me. My version includes sp1 as well as the hotfix described in the readme. If you don't see that value, then you should probably attempt to install sp1. If that doesn't fix the problem by itself, also install the hotfix.

Hi Jason,

I'm getting a crash after the load:

1) I see the bouncing head.
2) I Select New Game then it shows the loading screen.
3) Wait a couple seconds.. crash.

System Specs:
Running Windows Vista x64 bit Service Pack 1. On right click computer it says it is up to date.
Where can I check which .net Framework I have?
